Recognition for post-1975 defence service

A service to mark the contribution to Australia's defence by service people since 1975 will be held at the Warragul RSL clubrooms this Sunday.
Australia's role in conflicts in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan and peacekeeping/peacemaking missions in numerous countries since the end of the Vietnam war are generally little understood by the public.
Speakers at Sunday's function that starts at 5pm will include former or current service people from the post-1975 era who will talk of their service and experiences.
Warragul RSL vice-president Mark Buttner said last year was the first timed the local RSL sub-branch had held a service specifically to acknowledge "younger veterans."
Members of the general public are broadly aware of Australians' service in the two World Wars, Vietnam and Korea but there has been less attention paid to more recent actions, Mr Buttner said.
The function for those that have served since 1975 has joined a number of other special commemorations - Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, Vietnam Veterans Day and Peacekeepers/peacemakers day - Warragul RSL conducts each year.
Sunday's service will be followed by snacks and the Ales on Albert bar at the club will open at about 6pm.
Mr Buttner said for catering purposes people interested in attending are requested to contact the club on 0480 257 478, at admin@warragulrsl.com.au or by filling in details on the sub-branch website.
