Thomas is triple zero hero
1 min read

A Warragul youngster has been recognised as a "Junior Triple Zero Hero" for his quick-thinking and maturity when calling 000 in an emergency.
Thomas Finley was amongst 20 recipients announced at an event in Melbourne on Wednesday.
He was nominated thanks a call he made in July 2023.
Thomas, who was just 11 at the time, was playing with friends at the Warragul Skate Park when a friend became the victim of an assault.
He immediately called Triple Zero Victoria, giving call-taker Melissa Whitaker details about where the three alleged offenders fled and their appearances.
The information provided by Thomas assisted police, who arrived on the scene quickly to assist.
Thomas was recognised at a ceremony at Melbourne Museum for his clear thinking and composure by Victorian Minister for Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes. Melissa was in attendance to support him.
Ms Symes commended the young recipients for their bravery under challenging circumstances with loved ones or where there was a potential public safety risk.
"The courage these young people have shown in emergencies is outstanding," Ms Symes said. "Their ability to remain calm and even give vital life-saving support is amazing and deserves to be recognised."
