An overnight camping trip nearly turned into catastrophe for two teenage girls on Friday night.

An overnight camping trip nearly turned into catastrophe for two teenage girls on Friday night.
Police reported a satellite emergency call was made by the 16-year-olds near Walhalla at about 7.30pm. The pair reported they were lost in bushland and being chased by animals.
The girls, from Seaford, had planned an unsupervised camping trip to Walhalla but police said they were ill-equipped for the cold overnight conditions.
Neerim South police were able to locate the teenagers using GPS. They were cold but uninjured.
Police said they were lucky the emergency call could be made or the incident may have resulted in a much different outcome.
