There was quite a bit of discussion and chewing the fat during last Tuesday's croquet pennant day between neighbours Warragul and Drouin Green.
Whatever the discussions they proved successful for Warragul as they won the day 11 games 86 hoops to Drouin Green three games 62 hoops.
Whilst the 'games' told a different story, 'hoops for' proved that games were far closer than thought and Warragul did not have it all their own way.
Today's game between ladder leaders Warragul and Morwell looms as a pivotal game for both clubs in deciding who shall go on to represent West Gippsland against East Gippsland in the GCA Golf Croquet Pennant 2022 Final to be held in early December. Morwell probably hold favouritism as they are playing on their patch of dirt, and everyone knows about home ground advantage.
Last Saturday saw the annual 'Twin W's' competition between Wonthaggi and Warragul.
This is an event that was orchestrated by both clubs prior to the onset of COVID. It was intended to bring members of both clubs together in a tournament format, without the intensity and seriousness of an actual tournament. It is played with much frivolity and banter and both clubs go to great lengths to try to outdo one another in the kitchen.
This year was hosted by Wonthaggi and saw the shield leave Warragul's grasp for the first time since 2019, with Wonthaggi having won the day convincingly 11 games to five.
