Interactive visitor kiosks have been unveiled in Neerim South and Yarragon to provide tourism and community information.
The large screen kiosks, located outside Neerim District Community Bank and adjacent to the Yarragon public toilets, offer visitors and locals 24/7 access to digital information on local towns. As well as highlighting popular tourist attractions, details of where to eat and drink, shop, enjoy arts and culture, explore the outdoors and stay in Baw Baw Shire are available.
Deputy mayor Tricia Jones officially opened the Neerim South kiosk in front of more than 20 people. Helping to boost Baw Baw as a premier tourism attraction, the kiosks are the result of a partnership between council, community bank and the state government via a $28,000 Living Local grant.
She said both kiosks featured destinations of Neerim South, Yarragon, Walhalla, Noojee, Jindivick, Mt Baw Baw, Erica and Rawson, Trafalgar and Thorpdale, Mt Worth State Park, Willow Grove/Blue Rock Lake, Warragul, Drouin "and everywhere in between."
"These hubs further enable visitors to become more familiar with everything there is to see and do in our local area," Cr Jones said. "As locals, we know how much our region has to offer. We can now share this knowledge with people visiting our region in an easy way."
She said it combines dedicated visitor guides, maps, local businesses and events, "creating a super friendly user experience".
Part of a pilot program, council says more kiosks may be installed in other towns across Baw Baw if they attract positive outcomes.
Baw Baw Shire mayor Annemarie McCabe said she looked forward to seeing social and economic outcomes from these new hubs.
"The new digital information kiosks will provide more promotion for our local businesses and highlight all the wonderful things there are to see and do throughout West Gippsland," Cr McCabe said.
