A 61-year-old woman was allegedly punched in the face three times on a V/Line train on Wednesday, June 26.
Police said the assault was reported as the train travelled between Longwarry and Drouin at about 9pm.
They said the alleged offender, a female teenager, fled on foot after the train was held at Drouin Railway Station to await police.
She was described as tanned with black hair and wearing a black hoodie with red writing on the front.
Police believe three teenagers were smoking on the train when they noticed the victim filming them on her phone.
It is alleged she was verbally berated and then punched in the face three times. The assault was stopped by others on the train.
The woman suffered bruising to her left eye, a sore jaw and a cut to the cheek, police said.
