Warragul's Samantha Atkinson was crowned a bowls world champion over the weekend.
Samantha, competing at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Guernsey, took out the crown in the mixed pairs competition.
Competing on the world stage for the first time against the best of Europe, Samantha paired with Sydney's Ray Pearse to defeat England's Rebecca McMillan and Harry Goodwin.
The pair's win makes it the second year running that Australia has taken out the mixed pairs event.
Following a shock defeat in the sectional rounds to Namibia, Samantha and Ray bounced back to finish second in their group with four wins out of five.
They were then randomly drawn as the team to avoid having to play an extra knockout match, moving straight into the quarter finals and ousting Scotland.
The semi final saw the Aussies take out Malaysia's Nor Farah Ain Abdullah and Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple, both of whom knocked out Samantha and Ray in the women's and men's singles respectively.
In the final it was a tense finish with a one-end shootout needed to decide the winner, the Aussies ultimately reigning supreme.
Samantha played bowls locally for Drouin Bowls Club for years before moving to Richmond Union Bowls Club, who she now represents.
