West Gippsland league will see the first full round of matches involving every team this weekend. There's plenty of action on offer for fans, with local rivalries and blockbusters abound.
Garfield vs Bunyip
Garfield Recreation Reserve, Saturday 2pm
Garfield hosts Bunyip in the latest edition of the Tom Cleary Cup, with plenty of intrigue surrounding both sides.
The local rivals met just once last season; the Bulldogs taking home a big 84-point win in round three.
Bunyip then went on to challenge for finals for most of the year before late losses saw them relinquish their spot in the top six. Garfield, meanwhile, struggled their way through a one-win season, eventually escaping the wooden spoon by the barest of margins.
This year, however, the early signs are indicating that things may just be a little different this year.
A mass-departure of senior talent has Bunyip in a tough spot and, following a defeat last week to Korumburra-Bena, it appears this may be a year about getting senior games into the club's future stars.
Garfield would know this feeling all too well, having experienced something similar last year.
They would have been buoyed by their first-up performance last week, where they pushed finals aspirant Cora Lynn for three quarters before falling away late.
Jack Tenace-Greenall booted five goals, while recruit Mark Griffiths starred.
And given what's on the line in what has become a longstanding rivalry, they'll have plenty of reason to think they're a red-hot chance here.
Either way, it's going to make for an interesting watch.
Warragul Industrials vs Tooradin-Dalmore
Western Park, Sunday 2pm
The Sunday Anzac game sees Warragul Industrials face off against Tooradin-Dalmore in what will be their second major challenge in as many games.
The Dusties were full of endeavour against Phillip Island in round one in tough conditions. But against the best of the best, effort is not enough. As a team, your execution has to match at pretty much all times.
And when it comes to the best, they don't come much better than Tooradin-Dalmore.
The Seagulls have continued on their merry way following last year's drought-breaking premiership win, being relatively untroubled in both of their opening matches. Despite losing some talent to the VFL, the side's recruiting has been strong enough to cover it, leaving them as the team to beat.
It means that the Dusties are facing a brutal beginning to their season, with a very real chance of being 0-2 after this week.
Warragul have backed in their up-and-coming team this year, having not relied on recruiting as much as other teams.
And while their team was good enough to take them to a preliminary final last season, they're going to have to be on another level if they want to claim four points here.
Other matches
Fresh off their first win in almost a year, Korumburra-Bena hosts Cora Lynn.
The Giants were gallant enough to earn the win last week against Bunyip, and will be hopeful of keeping up that momentum. The Cobras bounced back to beat Garfield and even their ledger at 1-1, but it was far more difficult than most would have predicted.
Expect Cora Lynn's explosive forwards to be the key here. Korumburra-Bena must keep the likes of Nathan Gardiner and co. quiet, otherwise it's going to be a long day at the office.
Neighbours Koo wee rup and Nar Nar Goon will meet for what looks as an interesting match-up.
The Demons have looked to improve their standing in the competition, with recruits like Musa and Adam Amin making an instant impression in their demolition job at Dalyston last week.
The Goon, meanwhile, will be trying to rebound quickly after a disappointing performance against Inverloch-Kongwak. Nar Nar Goon were good but not quite good enough last season, and if they want to be in the premiership conversation, this is a game they should expect to win.
Two of the league's best meet in the 'Bass Coast Blockbuster,' when Phillip Island takes on Inverloch-Kongwak.
The Bulldogs managed to shake off the Dusties last week, while a strong win over the Goon will have Sea Eagles fans excited.
Cowes Recreation Reserve has long been a fortress for Phillip Island, but the home side should expect a stern test from Inverloch-Kongwak.
Finally, Kilcunda Bass and Dalyston will battle it out as both teams search for their first win.
Kilcunda Bass, who were a fair way off finals calculations last year, put up an admirable effort against Tooradin-Dalmore last week.
Despite being swept aside in the first half, they stuck fat and even managed to win the second half.
For Dalyston, this game will be a chance to reset.
Their round one match against Koo wee rup was definitely not to the standard they want to play, and unless they show some improvement soon, it could be another very long season for the Magpies.
