The state government's reversal of an earlier decision to cut teaching services for children with a disability has been welcomed by stakeholders and the Opposition.
Member for Narracan Wayne Farnham said the backdown followed fierce opposition from schools, parents, disability advocacy groups and the Liberal-National coalition.
He said it had been a key issue of concern raised during his visits to district schools in recent weeks and schools were worried about the impact the initially planned cuts would have had on students and their families.
Mr Farnham said he was glad the Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins had listened to stakeholders but the decision should not have been made in the first place.
He also called on the minister to rule out any future cuts to education and frontline teaching staff.
