Council praised for no stance

A resident has praised Baw Baw Shire Council on its no stance position ahead of the Voice to Parliament referendum.
Roy Lindsay, making a verbal submission at Wednesday night's council meeting, called on council to continue to be wary of venturing into social causes.
"I would like to commend council for the decision to take no public stance on the Voice referendum," Mr Lindsay said.
"I sincerely hope this is a subtle change in policy, as recently it is my observation that council has tended to involve itself in matters which I believe are outside the remit of local government and are not directly relevant to the needs of the community it exists to serve."
"By all means, hold political and/or ideological opinions, but please separate them from council work and decisions," he said.
Mayor Annemarie McCabe has previously told The Gazette that councillors had discussed the referendum and decided not to adopt a position on whether to support or oppose the vote for the Voice.
