Church fire deemed suspicious

An early morning fire at the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in Warragul on Thursday morning has been deemed suspicious by investigators.
Baw Baw CIU detectives are investigating the fire but said arson chemists assessing the fire scene had indicated it was deliberately lit.
The noise of the fire woke several neighbouring residents in Sutton St who alerted emergency service.
CFA fire crews were arrived at the scene at 5.15 and extinguished the fire.
Detectives said significant fire damage was caused to the foyer of the church but there was smoke and water damage throughout the building.
Investigations are continuing. Anyone with information that may assist investigations can contact CrimeStoppers 1800 333000.
