The sale of the old shire offices in Trafalgar will be considered at today's Baw Baw Shire council meeting.
Council officers have recommended the sale of the site at 107 Princes Hwy.
The report doesn't indicate a price that Baw Baw Shire could expect if sold, but notes "sale of underutilised or surplus property is one way in which council can generate additional income" in a rate-capped environment.
Councillors will ultimately vote on whether to proceed with the sale of the former Narracan and Baw Baw shire building, renamed the Trafalgar Business Centre in 2017. It was previously known as the Baw Baw Technology Centre.
Council meetings were relocated to the building as recently as 2019.
During community consultation in May, council reported that five submissions were made. One was in support as long as historic memorabilia was preserved for the community. The other four opposed the sale, with some advocating for council to use the building - or funds from its sale - for a permanent library in the town.
Officers reported the statue of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, located at the front of the property, will remain in the public domain as part of the road reserve.
They said market appraisals and a certified valuation report had been received.
The property is located in Trafalgar's commercial precinct and is zoned commercial one. The land size is about 4554 square metres and comprises a commercial office building occupied by multiple tenancies.
Also on tomorrow's council meeting agenda is the future use of the Scope building in George St, Warragul; and reports on Warragul BMX track, cycling infrastructure and the CFA petition on fire extinguisher maintenance.
The meeting will be held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre at 1pm.
