Students at Chairo Christian School's Drouin East campus lit up an otherwise dull morning with a book character parade as part of Book Week celebrations on Tuesday.

Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators.

The Children's Book Council of Australia is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2015, and selected Books Light Up Our World as this year's theme.

Cleopatra inspired Chelsea Smith and Ruth Tucker.
Prep student Charlotte Smith had a prominent beak.
Danny Adams dressed up as Batman.
Caden Durrant chose Superman for his costume.
Prep student Hunter Davies dressed as a farmer.
Bianca Zurrer, Rachael Board and Holly Pain  show off their favourite book characters.
