People rushed to buy generators after blackouts from storms and high winds late last month swept across the region.
Three businesses in Warragul that sell the equipment said demand went "through the roof", one selling all stock on hand by 9am on one morning and having another flood of customers when additional units were received for the following day.
Ace Industrial, VC Traders and Warragul Forest and Garden, all located in Warragul, had similar stories about demand.
While a few decades ago farmers would have been the main buyers to maintain milking and their water pumps and some businesses also installed them, today a large percentage are being sold to householders in towns.
There are range of different sizes available to suit particular needs.
The Warragul companies said many households now had generators to keep refrigerators and freezers working and also to ensure they had lights, heating and power to use appliances.
One spokesperson said sales of generators were "funny" - they could sit in the shop for months and then there was a rush when storms or fires cut off electricity.
Very few people in the district weren't without reticulated electricity at some stage during the several days of storms and high winds with some not having their power restored for four to five days.
