Linton's "long run" for prostate awareness

Walking more than 400 kilometres in a month might be a challenge for some 73-year-olds. For Linton Blackwell, it's nothing.
Linton, a 13-year prostate cancer survivor, will be taking on the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia's 'The Long Run', a challenge to raise awareness of the disease and funds for research and support.
It will be the fifth time he has taken on the challenge, having covered 2195km across the past four Septembers.
A Moe resident, Linton will be walking from Moe to the Warragul Downtowner tomorrow as part of the event.
Linton said his efforts were more about raising awareness rather than anything else, although the money is always a nice bonus.
"The money is secondary for me but every little bit helps," he said.
With three brothers and two nephews who also are survivors, prostate cancer is a cause near and dear to Linton's heart. He runs a support group in Warragul and is determined to keep doing The Long Run for as long as he can.
"I'm still going alright, I'm slowing down but we'll get there."
"(My neighbours) all tell me I'm bloody mad. And they're right of course."
