More than 60 local residents donned their gardening gear and got their gloves dirty at Baw Baw Shire's national tree day event on Sunday July 30.
Volunteers young and old gathered at Ellen Close Reserve in Warragul to help plant around 1200 groundcovers and shrubs.
National Tree Day is a nationwide program organised by Planet Ark. The program encourages people to come together to help restore and preserve the natural environment.
The aim of the Ellen Close event was to improve the vegetation and habitat of native animals living in the reserve, including the Giant Gippsland Earthworm and the Warragul Burrowing Crayfish.
Volunteers were rewarded for their hard work with a sausage sizzle at the end of the event.
