Being good friends has been the secret to 70 years of marriage for Jean and Kevin Macfarlane.
The Macfarlanes have supported each other through the highs and lows of working together and raising a family to reach their platinum wedding anniversary last month.
Jean and Kevin were married at Birregurra on July 27, 1953.
Like many of that era, they met at a local dance. Kevin, who was from Tonimbuk and Iona, was working in the area when he met Jean, a local school teacher.
But West Gippsland was to be their home.
After they married, Kevin and Jean moved to Labertouche where they dedicated their working life to dairy farming, before moving to Warragul in retirement.
Kevin and Jean lived in Warragul for 25 years, moving into Narracan Gardens at Newborough in December.
Kevin, 90 and Jean, 92 have three children - Ian of Drouin, Sheryl (Campbell) of Cowes and Julie (Marguglio) of Aspendale Gardens. They also have seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
