A new $3.1 million pavilion at Garfield Recreation Reserve was officially opened last Tuesday afternoon.
The pavilion features changerooms with operable wall/roller doors, unisex amenities, strapping rooms, umpires changerooms, first aid room, public toilets, external viewing area, office, canteen, cleaners store and storage.
Works on the pavilion started in June 2023 and were completed in the 12-month timeframe, with Garfield Netball Club - known as the Stars - moving in during June.
Cardinia Shire Council, who contributed $2.6 million to the project, reported the state-of-the-art facility was designed to cater for the growing needs of local netball enthusiasts.
Mayor Jack Kowarzik expressed excitement when opening the pavilion, stating its modern amenities and dedicated courts promised to be a hub for netball activities, training and competitions.
"We are thrilled to open the Garfield netball pavilion, which will serve as a central hub for our thriving netball community," Cr Kowarzik said. "This new pavilion provides a home for our local teams to improve their skills, build friendships and create opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels to come together and enjoy friendly competition."
The state government contributed the remaining $800,000 to the project, identified by Cardinia Shire in the Garfield Recreation Reserve masterplan in 2015.
It noted the $3.1 million pavilion represents a significant investment in the future of netball in Garfield, serving as a central part of the local sports community, fostering teamwork, leadership and a healthy, active lifestyle.
