Spring weather no surprise

Spring weather in West Gippsland this year has kept true to its history - expect the unexpected.
After a drier than normal September start to the season, rain registered last month at Warragul and the Bureau of Meteorology's station at Nilma North was well above average.
Warragul recorded 172.4 millimetres in October, Nilma North just one millimetre less.
The 115-year average for the month is 104.8 millimetres.
The weather was up and down; bursts of rain interspersed with fine and often sunny conditions - typical spring weather.
Falls totalling just over 100 millimetres from October 3 to 6, including a 72 millimetre drenching over a 24-hour period to 9am on October 4h, and another 40 millimetres over four days mid-month accounted for most of the month's rain.
It was ideal conditions to get pastures springing to life and a smile to farmers' faces as well as the sounds of lawn mowers echoing through towns.
But despite last month's falls the year's total is tracking well below the 864 millimetres average for the first 10 months of the year.
Warragul's total so far is 784.4 millimetres and Nilma North's 742 millimetres.
On average November and December produce 142 millimetres and if that is the case this year the annual figure would fall significantly short of the 1006-millimetre average.
The Bureau's outlook for the two months is for Gippsland, except for the eastern part of the region, is a 60 to 80 per cent below average rain for finish off the year.
At Mount Baw Baw, after an early end to the snow season, last month even produced a couple of reasonable snow falls among the rain.
The BoM's weather station at the alpine resort registered 199 millimetres of rain for October lifting the total for the year to date to 1435 millimetres.
