Register burns online

People planning to burn-off before an earlier than normal start to this year's fire season are urged to register them online.
Emergency Service Telecommunications Authority said landowners should use the Fire Permits Victoria website - www.firepermits.vic.gov.au/notify - to register rather than telephone1800 668 511.
Chief operating officer Nicole Ashworth said the website was quicker and easier and although the phone service remained available callers could have long waits to be answered on days of high demand.
Authorities expect a surge in burn-off registrations in the next few weeks as landowners take advantage of spring conditions.
Ms Ashworth said earlier this year there were days when the ETSA burn-off line received more than 1200 non-emergency calls to register burn-offs on private land, detracting from call takers focus on taking emergency tripe zero (000) calls.
CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan also emphasised the Fire Permits Victoria website was the preferred platform for members of the community to use.
By registering a burn-off emergency services can verify it is planned and not an actual fire when well intentioned calls report a fire.
It also saves local fire brigades being called out unnecessarily, Mr Heffernan said.
The website also enables landowners to apply for a permit if necessary.
Mr Heffernan said before notifying plans for burns, people should observe any regulations or laws by their local CFA and council, notify neighbours, check weather conditions and defer any burns if there are high risk fire conditions, establish a gap or fire break of at least three metres, never leave a burn unattended and ensure there are enough people there to monitor, contain and extinguish the fire safely and effectively.,
