A man allegedly produced a gun after being confronted by two community members in Yarragon on Thursday afternoon.
The incident followed a collision with two cars on the Princes Hwy at about 4.15pm.
Police allege a stolen Nissan Tiida was being driven erratically in the east-bound lanes of the highway before the collisions.
As a result, the car lost a wheel and was dumped in Acacia Crt.
Two witnesses followed the vehicle and confronted the male driver when he attempted to flee the scene.
Police allege the man attempted to discharge a firearm at the pair, however, the gun failed to fire.
The witnesses continued to follow the man and alerted police to his location.
A 36-year-old Moe man was arrested on the nature strip between the Princes Hwy and Princes Hwy Service Rd. Police recovered a firearm nearby.
He was charged and remanded to appear before Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Police acknowledged the efforts of the two witnesses who updated officers on the man's location.
