Carla Blackwood will play the natural horn during the Genesis Baroque performance at the Wesley of Warragul on Sunday November 19.

For its final concert of 2023, Wesley of Warragul will present critically acclaimed Melbourne period instrument ensemble, Genesis Baroque.
The ensemble is set to play two pinnacles of classical chamber music canon for wind and strings on Sunday November 19.
The program for the beautiful afternoon concert will include Mozart's graceful quintet for horn and strings (1782), which is unusually scored for one violin, two violas, cello, and horn.
The horn used in this performance is played by the exceptional natural horn player, Carla Blackwood. Simpler than the more familiar French horn, Carla's period instrument produces a rich alto register.
The program also features Beethoven's much-loved, momentous septet for violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. Formed in 2017, this is the first time Genesis Baroque has played in Warragul.
However, the group's principal violin, Jennifer Kirsner has played at Wesley several times with Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.
"Last time I was there, I noted the wonderful acoustics of the space and made it a priority to find an opportunity to come back with my new ensemble," Jennifer said.
"I really hope this can be the start of building a great relationship with regional audiences; we have such a good following in Melbourne and it will be fantastic to reach out more widely."
The concert will begin at 2:30pm on Sunday November 12 at Wesley of Warragul.
