Three incidents of family violence are reported to police every day in Cardinia Shire.
The statistic, affecting thousands of families each year, is set to inspire participation in a Walk Against Violence event in Pakenham on Friday afternoon.
The walk, now in its 13th year, will depart Pakenham Library at noon and travel through Main St, before returning to the library at about 12.30pm.
Prior to and following the walk, families can hear from guest speakers and participate in a series of activities. These will include raffles, family friendly activities and a free sausage sizzle.
Organised by the Cardinia Casey Family Violence Network, with support from Cardinia Shire Council, the walk helps raise awareness of family violence and services available to vulnerable families in the community.
The walk also offers all people in Cardinia an opportunity to show their support to end the cycle of family violence in the community, with everyone encouraged to attend.
Due to the walk, several roads in Pakenham will be temporarily closed between noon and 12.30pm.
If you, or someone you know, is experiencing family violence, contact 1800 RESPECT for advice and support. In an emergency, call 000.
