A Jindivick man was taken to West Gippsland Hospital on Friday after a man broke into his Jackson's Track home.
The intruder allegedly smashed a stained-glass window on the front door to gain access to the house around 11pm.
The occupant was in the lounge and heard the noise.
Police said the resident went into the hallway to investigate the noise and was confronted by the intruder.
Police said a physical altercation developed between the two men and continued in multiple rooms of the house before the offender fled the scene, leaving several personal items behind in the scuffle.
The victim contacted police and was taken to hospital with facial injuries.
Police are investigating the incident.
