Local businesswoman and tourism advocate Angela Betheras has been remembered at Baw Baw Shire's recent council meeting.
An emotional Cr Peter Kostos moved a condolence motion and paid tribute to his neighbour of seven years who died earlier this month.
"She fought a very stubborn, long, hard battle against her cancers," Cr Kostos said.
Having first met Ms Betheras in the 1970s, Cr Kostos said she moved away to complete university before becoming a head buyer for fashion labels.
Working her way up to international buyer for Coles Myer, he said Ms Betheras opted to leave the corporate world and return to West Gippsland to focus on her passions for photography and tourism.
Ms Betheras opened a bed and breakfast at Nilma before starting an alpaca farm business at Darnum.
She had a shop and studio on the farm and later opened a shop in Yarragon selling alpaca fleece creations.
Cr Kostos said Ms Betheras was founder of Gippsland Gourmet Trail in early 2000s, president of the shire's tourism advisory board, and started a tourism information centre in Victoria St, Warragul.
She was the first woman to join the Lardner Park board and later became chair. She also was recipient of the 2011 Victoria Agri-futures Rural Woman of the Year award.
Cr Kostos said a letter of condolence would be sent to her mother Pat, sister Louise and family.
Crs Keith Cook and Tricia Jones also paid tribute at the meeting.
"Angela was an amazing person in Baw Baw Shire and she will be sadly missed," Cr Cook said.
Cr Jones added, "I know that she was stubborn, committed and someone who fought really hard to keep going".
