Last month Abbey Gardens aged care community held an art show featuring the works of residents.
Amongst those showing their works at the exhibition were Shirley Stone, Glenda Turner, Jennifer Knight, Nance Black, Wally Marek-Machen, and Lynne Ward.
Works in a variety of styles and mediums were on display. Some had been created recently, and others were works from some time ago.
Ms Stone works primarily with oils and had an impressive array of pieces on display, including floral still-life paintings and landscapes. Her floral paintings, especially one of her favourite pieces the "Mixed bowl", showed impressive skill and masterful use of colour and texture.
Watercolour paintings also were on display, created by Jennifer Knight. Ms Knight said "a painting should tell a story", which is what she endeavours to do in her pieces.
She said one of the challenges she loves is trying to get people's likeness within her paintings, as many of them depict people and tell a story.
Ms Turner, another resident artist at Abbey Gardens, had a few landscape pieces on display at the show.
Her preferred tool is a palette knife, which she uses to create different textures and patterns in landscapes.
"You get more expression with a palette knife," she explained.
The art show was a success and had many visitors, both residents and their families, who expressed delight at the sheer talent of those around them.
