Junior and senior St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School students had an insight into the Brooker Park environment recently.
The students met with Baw Baw Shire natural environment officers to view designs and gather information on a project to improve, through revegetation and education activities, the quality and connectivity of threatened species habitat in a section of Hazel Creek running through the park.
The school received a state government grant under the Communities For Nature Funding Program to revegetate the 0.55 hectare area.
The project team includes representatives of Baw Baw Shire Council, West Gippsland Catchment Authority, Warragul Urban Landcare Group and St Paul’s environmental sustainability and students groups.
Restoring habitat through environmental activities as well as broader community events will improve the awareness and involvement in protecting fauna, in particular the endangered growling grass frog, giant Gippsland earthworm and the critically endangered Warragul burrowing crayfish.
