Throughout October, Trafalgar resident Noah Gilbertson took up the Great Cycle Challenge, aiming to ride 800km and raise $500. Although, what came next, he never expected.
Noah smashed his goal, both in money raised and kilometres ridden, passing 800km on October 28, while raising $21,118 for children’s cancer.
His effort saw him finish fourth in Australia for money raised, an incredible effort that mum Kylie said was overwhelming.
“Considering he set the goal of $500 when he first wanted to ride, it’s been incredible. We’ve had some big supports jump on board which has been great,” she said.
Noah’s longest ride was on October 18 where he clocked up 59 kilometres, the day after riding 57 kilometres making it his biggest riding weekend of the event. So far, every kilometre he has ridden has been done in his trusty work boots as well.
Noah was out fundraising himself, door knocking in Trafalgar and Warragul, as well as emailing businesses and schools some of which came on board.
Noah thanked the many people and organisations for their support.
“I’m just extremely proud of him and his effort and to have the support he’s had as well,” Kylie said.
Noah also finished the challenge ranked first in Victoria for money raised, with 184 total sponsors helping him smash his goal. He is now planning on completing the fundraiser again next year.
