A usually busy lane, Hamp Lane, in Drouin's central shopping area will remain closed for at least another month.
Baw Baw Shire forecasts an "initial completion date" of the end of April for some major repairs to the road, "weather and other factors permitting".
Hamp Lane provides an alternative access from Sinclair St to car parking at Coles supermarket and some other bordering shops.
The closure of the northern section of the road has also cut off access to 17 designated car parks.
Many drivers also used it to access other business in the shopping centre to avoid the often heavily congested Princes Way and limited car parking in that street.
Council barricaded off the damaged section in early January after what it described as a significant rainfall event" that caused "excessive water flow outside of the drainage system" affecting the pavement.
The major damage is a hole more than a metre wide and about half a metre deep in the middle of the road but other there is also a honeycomb of cracks in the sealed surface of the laneway.
Last week the shire's director community infrastructure Ben Wood said the repair works required were more complex than initially thought with the scope widened to include stormwater drainage.
He said a contractor engaged for the repairs had indicated "works will begin soon".
