Supercars racer and Warragul product James Golding secured his first ever pole position after 130 attempts with a blistering lap in Darwin on the weekend.
After clocking the fastest time in Friday's qualifying, Golding ran last in Saturday's top ten shootout and outgunned the rest of the field to claim his first ever pole position.
The 28-year-old, who was born and raised locally, pipped Broc Feeney by just 0.07 seconds for the top starting spot on the grid in the opening race of the Darwin Triple Crown.
Golding's maiden pole is also the first ever pole position for the newest team to the sport, Arundel-based (Gold Coast) Premier Racing, that first joined the Supercars grid in 2022.
After leading the opening laps of the main event, Golding eventually had to settle for fourth position but has plenty of momentum moving forward.
