Croquet at Drouin commenced in cold and foggy conditions on the second day of the annual golf croquet handicap doubles event for 2024.
On behalf of president Barbara Mitchell, vice chairman Bob Quayle welcomed competitors to the venue in Oak Street, with the following clubs represented: Kew, Wonthaggi, Phillip Island, Sale, Lilydale, Traralgon, Leongatha, Golden Square, Korumburra, Morwell and Drouin.
Lawns, although a little soggy, were running quite true thanks to the dedication in preparation for the tournament by greenkeepers Kelvin Marriott and Bob Quayle.
At the end of the morning session on Saturday it was decided that games should be timed to one hour as play was quite slow and timed to 50 minutes on the Sunday, but this did not stop the club having to drop the last two rounds of play.
After thanking sponsors and kitchen ladies it was tournament manager Nannette Fry's pleasure to present the winners prizes, announcing that the Sale club had triumphed winning both divisions.
Division one winners: Wilma Freeman (Hcp. 7) and Betty Clissold (Hcp. 7) with five wins, one loss +5.
Runners-up: Ray Biffin (Phillip Is.) (Hcp. 5) and Cris Musgrove (Drouin) (Hcp. 8) with four wins, two losses +13.
Division two winners: Mary Tabrah (Hcp. 7) and Mark Vitlin (Hcp. 11) with five wins, one loss +21.
Runners-up: Leongatha pair Robin McKinnon (Hcp. 9) and Sue Priller (Hcp.12) with four wins, two losses, +7.
Members are reminded entries close this Saturday June 8 for the club drawn pairs championship.
