The lush spring-like countryside and green paddocks that lasted through to the end of January have quickly disappeared after a dry February in West Gippsland.
Things have turned brown with rainfall for last month well below average.
Warragul received just 23.6mm of rain, 18mm of that in one day.
Even less was registered at the Bureau of Meteorology's weather station at Nilma North - just 5mm - and Mount Baw Baw which is usually the wettest by far in the district got only 15mm.
The dry weather has continued in March, the first fortnight seeing only 2.6mm recorded in dribbles at Nilma North.
During February eight maximum temperatures exceeded 30 degrees on eight days at Nilma North with a highest reading of 36.1 degrees.
The lowest overnight temperature was 5.5 degrees.
The bureau's outlook for West Gippsland over the next few months is for about another 5-10 millimetres for the rest of March and totals for April to June in the 100 to 200 millimetres range, the heaviest falls at the higher altitudes.
