Blackwell supports industrial hemp inquiry

Freedom Party deputy leader Leonie Blackwell of Drouin has voiced her support for a parliamentary inquiry into the industrial hemp sector.
The inquiry will look into the issues, barriers and opportunities within the current Victorian industrial hemp industry.
Also being looked at are the benefits that might result from the industry's improvement, including how it could assist in Victoria's transition away from timber.
Ms Blackwell recently hosted a community forum in Warragul focussing on discussion about hemp, as well as the timber and bamboo industries.
She said she believed the potential of the industrial hemp industry was immense and saw it as a vital opportunity for Gippsland.
In particular, she highlighted how important it will be to engage with industry experts already involved in discussions about building codes for hemp housing.
"It is crucial for governments to have a forward-thinking vision that supports a flourishing society," Ms Blackwell said.
"At a time when we are witnessing a decline in manufacturing and the shutdown of industries, Gippsland and Victoria need new options."
