Five students undertaking the Victorian Certificate for Applied Learning (VCAL) at Drouin Secondary College have used the talents they've learned to build and install a picnic table and seating in a local park.
With the help and mentoring of Drouin Rotary club president Roger Playdon and director of community projects Bill Petschack the students worked on the project at Alex Goudie Park from start to finish - earthworks, concrete slab and the table and seating which are accessible for people using wheelchairs.
The team of students was Keith Stirling, Nach Whyman, Mo Jafari, Zane Atkinson-Gill and Oscar Ennis Wert.
College VCAL coordinator Kevin Thorpe said as part of the program students were asked to complete a community project that would benefit others and were pleased with the support of the Rotary club.
Mr Playdon complimented the boys on their enthusiasm and abilities in completing the work and was also impressed that they had personally visited Drouin Home Hardware, Drouin Garden Centre and Baw Baw Shire to thank them for their donations of goods and services towards their project.
He said another group of four students was also working with the club on strategies to improve the promotion and management of the monthly Drouin Rotary market.
