Trafalgar High School's year 11 product design and technology students have put their skills into practice to create play-based products for Trafalgar Primary Early Learning Centre students.
Early learning centre teacher Fiona Macdonald and educators Brylee Gould and Laura Pirotta worked with the high school students for three separate projects.
Design and technology students were asked to create:
A farm play set with opening barn, windmill, tractor and trailer, truck and trailer and fence;
A playing tree featuring a series of post platforms and boxes that were "kids size" for Fiona to set up a 3D immersive playing experience; and,
A water play set featuring a giant water trough and a series of towers with water ramps.
Initially when given the three briefs the students struggled with the concepts, but they persevered and created some outstanding outcomes.
During the building stage, the early learning students attended the high school on a mini excursion to look at the high school students working on the projects.
At the end of the project, the year 11 students visited the early learning centre for an official handover.
The farm play set was very popular but the playing tree, which was set up as an experiential dinosaur play set attracted a lot of attention.
