A brand-new event to generate interest in early childhood careers will be held in Warragul in May.
Applications for stallholders are now open until Monday, March 4 at no cost.
The inaugural Early Childhood Careers Expo aims to generate interest of secondary school students, adults returning to work or other interested people in careers within the early years sector.
Any local business or organisation can become a stallholder and use the free expo as a chance to spread work and gain new recruits.
Held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Thursday, May 30 from 9.30am to 12.30pm, it will shine a light on careers such as maternal and child health nurse, family day care educator or kindergarten teacher.
The expo also will feature a pop-up playgroup and lessons in cover letter and resume writing.
Baw Baw Shire mayor Annemarie McCabe said she was excited for council to bring this new event to town.
"The early years sector looks after our youngest and some of our most vulnerable residents, and it's important that with all of the new families moving to the area and the infrastructure popping up, that we have the right people caring for our young ones," Cr McCabe said.
She said this sector was "really crying out for some more staff and leaders".
"Perfect for secondary school students, someone considering a new career opportunity, or someone looking for flexible work right from their own home, the early years sector has so much variety and flexibility, while also being a rewarding career," Cr McCabe said.
