West Gippsland local Bianca Zurrer has come home a medalist for Victoria after recently representing the state in the Hockey Australia Under 21 Championships in Newcastle recently.
The team made it all the way to the final before being going down 2-1 to Queensland, leaving Bianca and company as silver medalists.
It was Bianca's second time on the time on the team, having earned a spot last year.
"It was a slightly different team to last year but I was expecting to go well. At least we did better than last year because last year we came fifth," she said.
"Having last year made this tournament so much easier. I felt way more prepared."
Playing primarily as a defender, Bianca said she was happy with how she played, though she jokingly said she should have taken some chances to get further up the field and score.
"I don't get many opportunities as a defender, I should have taken it."
Spending a week and a half in Newcastle, Bianca said she was very familiar with her teammates, having played alongside and against many of them in the past.
She added her favourite part of the week was "winning a medal."
"It was good fun," she said.
Bianca now aims to continue playing representative hockey for her state, and hopes to one day pull on the green and gold for Australia at the Olympics.
