Sapphires spread joy as tour heads to Warragul
Inspired by a true tale, "The Sapphires" is an energetic, fun and engaging musical play touring to Warragul on Tuesday, July 19.

The funny, heart-warming musical play "The Sapphires" will be performed at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Tuesday, July 19 at 7.30pm.
"The Sapphires" is a multiple award-winning musical play that inspired a film. However, this marks its first national tour.
Writer Tony Briggs promised the tour, taking in Warragul, would be the most intimate telling of "The Sapphires" story yet.
"I hope the audience will feel a fresh sense of connection to a story that has already successfully infiltrated the psyche of the Australian theatre and movie going public, and get a sense of joy and understanding of who Aboriginal people are and walk away from 'The Sapphires' with a smile on their faces," Tony said.
The musical play tells of four young Aboriginal women from regional Australia who like singing country music. They suddenly get the chance to change their tune and their lives.
Wearing uniforms of sequins and armed only with microphones, this singing group of four Yorta Yorta women singing classic soul hits find themselves trying to spread joy in the hell that is the Vietnam War.
Inspired by the true story of Briggs' mother, the Warragul audience will be taken on an incredible journey affirming life and the realisation of dreams.
Tickets to "The Sapphires" are $43 for general, $40 for concession, $35 for members and $25 for youth under 18.
