Volunteers from the Drouin Anglican Church op shop and warehouse came together recently to thank volunteers for their commitment and time, and to farewell op shop co-ordinator Iris Morgan.
Iris, who has worked at both the shop and warehouse almost every day for four years, was largely responsibly for the opening of the shop's new location at 41 Princes Way, together with her team of volunteers.
This involved a tremendous amount of work for everyone involved and Iris assisted with planning the layout and the purchase of most of the necessary equipment in setting up the new shop.
The shop has been very successful to date as more volunteers have joined the team and work well together.
Parish councillor Lacy Biggs presented Iris with a trophy congratulating her on her efforts, together with a gift voucher and flowers.
Iris said she was looking forward to having a break as well as spending more time with her family interstate, and picking up her craft work which she enjoys but has had little time to complete of late.
A new op shop co-ordinator has been appointed and is overseeing the daily shop operation for which the church said they are most grateful.
All the volunteers were congratulated on working well together as a team which provides the community with clothing and home goods at an affordable price.
The fact that donations are recycled and re-sold also saves a huge volume of items ending up in landfill. Items not suitable for the shop are donated to other charitable organisations or are passed on to be shipped to Papua New Guinea, all helping those in need.
Currently, financial support is donated to the Food Bank in Warragul and The Crossing in Drouin.
The Anglican op shop team said anyone interested in joining would be made most welcome, and those interested should make enquiries through the shop or warehouse, which is located at 65 Roberts Crt, Drouin.
