A grant for new storage will clear space for Bunyip and District Men's Shed to offer additional community programs.
President Allan Berry said a $7600 state government grant would assist in purchasing two shipping containers to clear space for its 24 active members as well as a new women's group.
Minister for Carers and Volunteers Ros Spence recently announced the Bunyip shed as one of 28 grant recipients. The funds were allocated in the latest round of the state government's Men's Shed Funding Program.
"Men's Sheds provide a welcoming place to learn new skills, contribute to the community and improve mental health and wellbeing," Ms Spence said. "These grants help to establish new Men's Sheds, complete repairs, and make improvements that ensure they are safe, remain fit for purpose, and are accessible to all members."
Mr Berry said one shipping container would be used to store timber currently stacked inside the shed. The second will store items that members create for markets.
The grant, together with group funds, will enable the shipping container purchase as well as necessary electrical works, he said.
Once cleared out, Mr Berry said a new women's group would be able to utilise the shed on Fridays.
Mr Berry said the group was "more than happy" with the grant.
Men's Sheds provide a welcoming place for people to connect, socialise and work on projects. They also improve mental health of members by reducing social isolation and promoting inclusion.
The Bunyip group also regularly fundraise for the neighbouring Hillview Aged Care.
