A GRAND final rematch and enthralling twilight contest headline what shapes as a competitive opening round of Ellinbank District football on Saturday.

Having broken through for a premiership last season, Buln Buln host Neerim-Neerim South in what is seemingly becoming a tradition of playing a grand final rematch to open the season.
Personnel changes will again see the Lyrebirds start with slight favortism. Hungry to go back-to-back, the home side has also gained the return of crafty forward Cam McPhan.
The Cats will look to the likes of Chris Urie, Luke Kinder and the returning Matthew Roberts for its scoring firepower, having lost twin towers Lachlan Bambridge and Thomas Crole over the off-season.
Still, the visitor shouldn't be taken lightly as they still boast class players across the ground.
NILMA-DARNUM will host Nyora in the twilight timeslot of 6.10pm in a match between two of the lower ranked sides from season 2023 set to garner significant interest.
It could prove an early opportunity for the Bombers to break their winless drought which now stretches 38 games.
The Bombers have remained steady and showed signs of improvement over the offseason, whereas the Saints may need time to jell after significant change.
Travis Stewart and Jack Rozenow headlined up to a dozen departures and while the Saints recruited well, it will be a new look team.
LANG LANG will get an early indication if its additions in personnel may help it push towards a return to finals when they host 2023 finalist Trafalgar.
Star forward signing Marc Holt proved dangerous in clunking marks in the Tigers' pre-season hit out against Gembrook, with former Belconnen league team of the year centre-half-back Brad Hoffmann a potential mouthwatering match up.
Home ground advantage may tip it slightly in the favour of the Tigers.
CATANI will host Longwarry in a match between two other teams looking to push up the ladder.
While the Blues will be aiming for further improvement under coach Luke Young, the return of several players including livewire forward Jason Wells should pit favouritism with the Crows.
POOWONG host Yarragon in another contest between mid-table rivals from 2023.
Expect Jack Hazendonk to again lead the charge as the Magpies aim for another finals appearance under new coach Dale Carroll.
The Panthers will also look to challenge for the top five, with former Hallam playing assistant and US punter Dean Kelly likely to provide some additional drive.
Home ground advantage again slightly tips it in favour of the Magpies, but don't be surprised if Yarragon mount a challenge.
ELLINBANK have the bye and will watch over proceedings with interest.
