Garfield sitting on top
Garfield lead Geoff Pumphrey bowls against Moe in division two.

Garfield bowlers won two of their matches this week, with one side now on top of the ladder.
Division two: Garfield lost to Moe 75/87
Garfield hosted the ladder leading side from Moe on Saturday and, despite winning two rinks, had a 12-shot loss.
The team of Brad Fowler, Bob Lamport, Jasmine Fowler and skip Shane Oliver had a very close game all day. Each team was up and down, culminating in the Garfielders being five shots down with just two end to play. However, they fought back with seven shots on those two ends to come home 21/19 winners.
Geoff Pumphrey, Ray Biffin, John O'Shea and skip Les Pumphrey were well up - 12/6 - at the halfway mark. They kept on going, winning the day 24/13.
The team consisting of Gerry Fuller, Cheryl Breteler, Gordon Moxey and skip Alan White played what looked like a very tight game in the first half, the score 11-all at half-time. However, looks can be deceiving, as that closeness included one end where they scored seven shots. Their opponents carried on in the second half, but there was no big end to allow the Garfielders to match them. They finished up trailing 16/26.
Stephen Whyte, skipping the team consisting of Ron Saunders, Henry Breteler and Gary Helmore, were down all day and lost in the end 14/29.
This result leaves them in fourth place on the ladder.
Division five: Garfield (2) defeated Warragul (3) 67/35
The division five side played against Warragul at their place. With two rinks having good wins and the third rink just going down, Garfield played well for a 32-shot win.
The team of Jan Moxey, Lexi Taylor, Trevor Peters and skip Gwen Fabris dropped the first two ends to be three shots down. They caught those up in the next end, striding away to win easily, 25/8.
Rick Sillett skipped the team of Frank Prins, Gerry Wakefield and Les Dawes. They too lost the first two ends, then caught up on the third end. Unfortunately, they didn't go on with it, being five shots down at the halfway point. With two ends to go in the game, they were still five shots down. The result was a 12/18 loss.
The team skipped by Brian Fox and consisting of Keith Cooke, Len Preece and Robert Matthews won their first two ends to be three shots up. But, in this case, there was no catch-up. The Garfielders ran away from their opponents for a comprehensive 30/9 win.
Another good win moved the side up to the top position on the ladder.
Midweek
Garfield travelled to Moe for a match in the sunshine on Tuesday.
Division four: Garfield defeated Moe 64/37
All three teams brought home the bacon for a 27-shot win.
The team skipped by Gwen Fabris with Lexi Taylor, Cheryl Breteler and Bob Lamport had a to-and-fro beginning to be tied at seven-all after seven ends. Then the Garfielders ran away to be 13/7 at the halfway mark. The second half was virtually a duplicate of the first half, with Garfield winning 24/14.
Alan White's team, consisting of Keith Cooke, Trevor Peters, and Gordon Moxey, took a watch and learn approach from Gwen's team. They were four-all after seven ends and 9/4 at halfway to win, 21/10.
The team of Gerry Wakefield, John O'Shea and Helene Newton, with skip Malcolm Newham, had yet another runaway and catchup game. Garfield was in front most of the day but Moe made an effort to catch them. It was no avail, Garfield winning 19/13.
Garfield remains in second place on the ladder.
