After sustaining flood damage, a section of Hamp Lane in Drouin will be closed for at least two months.
Baw Baw Shire said the decision to temporarily close the northern section of Hamp Lane for repairs was made on Thursday.
The section, from Sinclair St to the top of the Coles carpark, will be closed for "a minimum of eight weeks", the shire stated.
Barriers have been installed at the Sinclair St entrance to Hamp Lane to prevent vehicle and pedestrian access.
The shire reported Hamp Lane sustained damage during "significant rainfall" impacting Drouin between Wednesday, December 27 and Thursday, January 4.
It stated this rainfall caused "excessive water flow outside of the drainage system" and damaged the integrity of the surrounding pavement.
Suitable repairs are being arranged, including further assessments as well as design and construction of a new road surface. An upgrade of the drainage pits and pipework will also be explored.
"Council has been in close contact with neighbouring property and business owners following the closure, and will remain in constant contact with them throughout the repair process," a spokesperson said.
Residents who use this entrance to access the Coles car park and adjoining businesses will need to use the southern entrance located on Hope St.
