Dusties double with youthies premiership
Warragul Industrials claimed the Female Football Gippsland Youth Girls Division One flag in Churchill on Sunday. Warragul Industrials have made it two flags in as many weeks after winning the Female Football Gippsland Youth Girls Division One grand final against Newborough on Sunday.
Playing at Churchill's Gaskin Park, the Dusties booted 3.6 to no score in the first half before holding off the determined Bulldogs in an arm wrestle of a match that finished 3.7 (25) to 2.1 (13) the Dusties' way.
It's a story of redemption for the club's 'youthies' contingent after they were defeated in last year's grand final.
Lilly Leighton was the hero on the scoreboard, kicking all three of of the club's goals for the day.
Hayley Waite was named the team's best on ground after an excellent performance.
Kira Wilson put in a dominant stint through the midfield, using her strength around the ball to great advantage, Jamie Chapman took a number of vital marks in defence that saved almost certain goals, Charlize Dent stood tall in the ruck and Stella Kittelty used her speed to great effect on the wing.
Though Warragul Industrials were kept to just one behind past half time, their backline held firm, restricting Newborough's ability to surge the ball forward.
The youth girls now join their senior compatriots as premiers for the year. Coupled with the senior development side making finals, it's been a good year to be a Dusties player in the women's program.
