Crunch time for potato festival

It is crunch time for the Thorpdale Potato Festival with the popular event's future hanging on the commitment of new volunteers to get involved and save the festival.
With only a few remaining committee members available to keep the event alive for 2023, a crisis meeting will be held next Tuesday night.
Marketing officer Barbara Butterworth said it was going to be a very difficult decision to make, but would it be a decision made by a few or many.
"We need as many people from our community and neighbours as possible to attend this meeting to have your voice heard.
"A decision will be made on this night and it may be the hard one," she said.
If held, next year's event will be the town's 29th Potato Festival. In its heyday it was an annual event on the Monday Labour Day public holiday in March.
In recent years, community members revived the event to become a bi-annual event. The 2021 event was cancelled due to the uncertainty of COVID restrictions.
The meeting, to either wind up the festival or to form a committee to begin planning the 2023 event will be held at CFA meeting room, Station St, Thorpdale at 7.30pm.
