Drouin couple Ken and Lana Da Costa took their "I do" vows in a brief ceremony at Drouin South on December 23 - again!
They'd done it before, 60 years ago.
And Ken and Lana could not have found a better place to mark their diamond wedding anniversary, the Glenfyne reception centre now operated by granddaughter Emily Ford and her husband Sam.
The venue was in excellent order with the colourful gardens spread over six acres in full bloom and the weather ideal.
Fate often plays a role in relationships but Ken said his first encounter with Lana didn't set any wheels turning.
He'd turned up at a factory that made footwear components looking for a job but was told by the receptionist there weren't any available.
Lana was the receptionist.
The manager, who arrived as Ken was walking off, asked what the man had wanted, chased him down the street and told him to come back in six months.
Ken did, got a job and, as the saying goes, "the rest is history."
The brief initial encounter eventually led to Ken and Lana tying the knot at suburban Preston when they were 20 and 18 years old respectively, not unusual ages for couples to marry in the "baby boomers" era of the 1960s and 1970s.
It has been a very happy marriage, Ken said, praising his wife for being "full of love" for family that became three daughters, two of them able to attend the milestone anniversary at Glenfyne.
Ken and Lana operated a wholesale plant nursery in Melbourne for a number of years before a move to Neerim South 25 years ago where Ken manufactured potting mix.
They retired to Drouin five years ago.
