Candidates have their say on women's safety

Gippsland’s Women’s Health and Women in Gippsland will unite to host an online forum on Monday night where federal election candidates will have an opportunity to address women’s health and safety concerns.

Monash candidates participating in the forum include: Mat Morgan – Greens; Russell Broadbent – Liberal Party; Deb Leonard – independent; and Jessica O'Donnell – ALP.

The forum will be an opportunity for candidates to publicly address their commitment and personal action to improving women’s well-being and achieving gender equality for the women of Gippsland.

Each candidate will be given two minutes each to introduce themselves,

their vision for the women of Gippsland and their personal action as a

future Federal representative to address these three areas.

An independent moderator will facilitate a Q&A with candidates from

the public, which have been previously submitted to the forum

organisers.

GWH is seeing escalating rates of violence against women, the impact of climate change and natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic are being borne out in increased rates of mental ill health impacts.

GWH believes Gippsland is facing a looming crisis in women’s health, due to a lack of access to basic health and cancer screening.

The organisation is concerned about the future for women and children in Gippsland and is calling on the candidates to explain their vision for action that is urgently needed to address these problems.

The "Meet the Candidates" online forum on Monday is a chance for community members to add their voice to the conversation, make their vote count, and ask candidates about their vision to create a healthy, safe Gippsland for women and children.

The forum will run from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
