Winter in all its glory was celebrated by St Andrew's Kindergarten last month with a winter festival.
The winter festival was a great opportunity for families to meet and for the children to build awareness of the changing seasons.
The children prepared for the festival by making beautiful lanterns from their water-colour paintings. This involved painting, choosing mathematical shapes for windows in their lanterns and cutting the paper to help make the lantern.
The children also learnt a simple song called 'Wattle Tree' to sing for their lantern walk. The families arrived at 5pm and brought soups and finger foods to share.
The festival began with the individual children walking into a spiral to light their lanterns with the help of an adult. Everyone then walked outside while carrying our lanterns.
The children had to walk carefully to balance their lanterns using a stick through our handles. They walked along a path lit-up by small candles and sang the winter song. The children were fascinated by how beautiful their lanterns looked in the dark.
After the lantern walk everybody enjoyed soup, bread and pizza.
The families enjoyed the opportunity to be out with their children and to meet other families.
