More Gippsland tennis history

Gippsland's inaugural Associations Junior Pennant campaign achieved another milestone on the weekend after their open boys team secured the area's first win in Gippsland boys history.

Following on from the girls' historic opening round win against BDTA, the boys were able to replicate the girls' accomplishment against a very strong Peninsula Tennis Association team.

Following a first round bye and waiting for their chance to shine, the boys came out to play and were too good with a home court advantage.

A true team effort on the day saw Gippsland prevail by just two sets and five games in a hard-fought contest that went down to the wire in beautiful conditions in Drouin.

The open boys victory makes it two from two opening round victories for Gippsland AJP teams in successive weeks as they solidify themselves as a force to be reckoned with, and announce the Gippsland region as an area for excellence in Victorian junior tennis.

With pathways now growing, players in the area have more opportunities to challenge themselves and put their talent on display against other regions.
