Goannas ease past Hawks

The Gippsland Goannas over 60s welcomed the Eastern Hawks to Toongabbie turf on Sunday.
Batting first the Hawks could only manage 9/105 from 40 overs, with fill-in (Goannas) Ian Gibson topscoring with 23 not out, from 50 balls.
Disappointingly, the Hawks could only bring nine players to Gippsland, similar to Canterbury last weekend.
Goannas bowlers were excellent, with Bernie Symons leading the attack and taking 2/11 from five overs.
Neil Meredith bowled seven overs and took 1/11, Andy Slevin seven overs for 2/26 and Jim Armstrong four overs for 2/9, while Graeme Ingle had two unassisted run outs, Chris De Vent two catches and Keith Orchard one.
In reply the Goannas passed the Hawks score in the 20th over, with Ingle retiring on 33 from 30 balls, Ray Smith 20, Rino Metlikovec 17, Rob Bacchetti 14 and Rob Taylor 12 not out all getting to double figures.
The Goannas over 70s travel to Outtrim for their first game today, while the Geelong Vets will bring both over 60 and over 70 teams to Traralgon for the annual double header on Sunday.
